In 2001, Spahiu was released to await the judgment of his case in freedom. He became a fugitive in June 2004, at the moment when his conviction – and sentence to approximately 4.5 years of imprisonment – became final. Taking into account his credit for pre-trial detention, he still has to serve approximately 3.5 years.
Lulzim Spahiu is also known as Hazir Spahija, or by his nickname Smokey. The images of Spahiu were taken in 2000. It is likely that his appearance has changed to some extent since then.
Spahiu was born in Yugoslavia and is currently probably in Albania or Kosovo. There are no legal options for extradition from either country. This has allowed him to remain a fugitive for nearly twenty years now.
The police would like to know Spahiu’s current whereabouts and with whom he is in contact.
Recent photos and video footage of him would also be of great importance to the investigation.
