Update: possible terrorist attack in Utrecht

Utrecht - On Monday 18 March 2019, between 10:30 and 11:00 hrs, a shooting took place at 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht, The Netherlands. There are multiple wounded. The shooter, most probably one man, is on the run.

Measures after the incident in Utrecht (NL)

The following measures have been taken after a possible terrorist attack in Utrecht:
All police stations have extra security. This means an armed officer is posted in the public space of each police station. All personnel present in the public space of police stations wear heavy bulletproof vests. Police officers deployed at strategic positions on the street wear heavy vests too.

The shooting took place in or around a public transportation vehicle at the crossing of Beneluxlaan and 24 Oktoberplein. The emergency services are on the scene, and the police is searching for the shooter with all possible means. At this moment the police consider several scenarios, including the possibility of a terrorist attack. More news will follow as soon as possible.

A phone number has been opened for questions: +31 30 286 0000. The National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism decided that the threat level for the province of Utrecht is raised from 4 to 5. In any case until 18.00 hrs today.
