Traffic disruptions around The Hague
Will The Hague be accessible during the NATO Summit?
The NATO Summit will be held on 24 and 25 June at the World Forum in The Hague. It requires many security measures, which will affect road traffic, public transport, air travel and shipping. Motorists are advised to avoid the Randstad between Monday 23 June and Thursday 26 June 2025 if they can, work from home, avoid travelling during rush hours, or take public transport. Anyone travelling by car between Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam from Sunday 22 June to Thursday 26 June should expect severe disruptions.
The temporary and partial closures of roads, motorways (including slip roads), flyovers and tunnels on the A4, A5, A44 and N44 are likely to cause significant delays. The same applies to regional and local roads in and around The Hague, Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Haarlemmermeer, Leiden and Rotterdam. For the most up-to-date information on road closures, detours and motorway delays, see Rijkswaterstaat.nl/navo-top (in Dutch). Emergency services (police cars, ambulances and fire trucks) will be able to pass freely on the secondary road network in emergency situations.
Will any restrictions apply to the airspace and at sea during the NATO Summit?
To ensure safety during the NATO Summit in The Hague, restrictions will apply to the airspace and at sea. Air traffic restrictions will apply within a 93-kilometre radius from The Hague. Large commercial aircraft are allowed to fly in this area, but they do need permission from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. Within a 16-kilometre radius from The Hague, no air traffic whatsoever will be allowed, with the exception of aircraft employed for security purposes and in medical emergencies. Restrictions will also apply at sea during the summit.
