What is the Criminal Intelligence Team?
The Criminal Intelligence Team (Team Criminele Inlichtingen, TCI) gathers information, in secret, about serious offences. Examples of such offences include murder, manslaughter, criminal undermining, armed robbery, drug trafficking, child sexual abuse, arson, terrorism, money laundering, human trafficking, and fraud, such as environmental fraud or bankruptcy fraud.
TCI’s most important source is informants: people who, without others knowing, pass information to the police. This information can help us to prevent serious offences and/or track down suspected perpetrators of such offences.
Call the Criminal Intelligence Team (confidentially)
0031-88 661 77 34Who should contact the Criminal Intelligence Team?
Contact the Criminal Intelligence Team if you have information about serious organized crime and are worried about your safety (or that of others) if you share it with the police. You can give your account secretly, without anyone knowing that you are talking to the police. The team will ensure that nobody within or outside the police organization finds this out. Your name will not end up on file.
How will I benefit from talking to the Criminal Intelligence Team?
In addition to contributing to a safer society, you may receive tip-off money, i.e. a financial reward, for your information. Whether you are entitled to this will be decided depending on the contents of your information and the agreements you make with TCI.
How does the Criminal Intelligence Team ensure that the contact remains secret?
The Criminal Intelligence Team always shields your identity (name and other data), the location where you meet, and the contents of your conversations. Your identity remains secret even for police officers, detectives, and public prosecutors.
In addition, TCI always checks whether the information you share can be traced back to you. If it can, TCI will not to use it in an investigation. If the information can be anonymized, an investigation team will only be given the information from your conversation that they need for their investigation. TCI then ensures that it is not clear who provided this information. For the criminal investigation department, it thus remains unknown where and who this information came from. In addition, no more information is ever shared than what is necessary for the investigation.
Why should I share information with the Criminal Intelligence Team rather than through M.?
Both the Criminal Intelligence Team and M. allow you to share information secretly, without other people knowing. The major difference is that M. is not part of the police. M. anonymizes information it receives and only then passes it on to the police.
The advantage of the Criminal Intelligence Team is that it is possible to have contact repeatedly if required and that we can ask follow-up questions if necessary.
What happens if I contact the National Intelligence Team?
The National Intelligence Team is a single point of contact for the whole country. If you call the team on +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34, the team member you speak to will first ask some general questions about who exactly you are and what sort of information you have. You can decide yourself what you tell or do not tell at this point. If the information is suitable and if you agree to this, TNI will pass you on to one of the various teams – the Criminal Intelligence Team (Team Criminele Inlichtingen, TCI), the Special Witnesses Team (Team Bijzondere Getuigen, TB, or the Public Order Intelligence Team (Team Openbare Orde Inlichtingen, TOOI). You can’t choose the team yourself: TNI decides which team is most suitable.
How do I contact the Criminal Intelligence Team?
To contact the Criminal Intelligence Team, call the National Intelligence Team at +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34. This is a shielded telephone line, which cannot be intercepted by investigative services. You will never be called from this number – this is to ensure that nobody can accidentally see that you have been in contact with this phone number. So if you call and nobody answers, it is important that you try again some other time.
During your phone call with TNI, you can say roughly what sort of information you want to share. TNI will then assess whether your information is suitable for TCI. If that is indeed the case, they will put you in contact with the TCI of the police unit in the relevant region.
You will then have an intake interview with the regional TCI. After this interview, there will be a cooling-off period, during which you can still withdraw. If both parties agree, a meeting is planned at a secret location.
You can call the National Intelligence Team on +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34, on Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. TNI’s phone line is also open during the broadcasting of the crime watch TV programme Opsporing Verzocht: on Monday evenings from 9.15 p.m. onwards.
