What is the National Intelligence Team?

The National Intelligence Team (Team Nationale Inlichtingen, TNI) is the central point of contact for all police teams that engage in intelligence-gathering. These teams include the Criminal Intelligence Team (Team Criminele Inlichtingen, TCI), the Special Witnesses Team (Team Bijzondere Getuigen, TBG), and the Public Order Intelligence Team (Team Openbare Orde Inlichtingen, TOOI).

If you share information with TNI, your identity is shielded. This may be reassuring, for instance if you are worried about your safety. Or if you might run into problems if it became known that you had shared information with the police.

TNI is intended for people in these sorts of situations who may have information about a serious offence or about organized crime. Examples of serious offences include murder and manslaughter, terrorism, criminal undermining, armed robbery, drug trafficking, child sexual abuse, rape, arson, money laundering, human trafficking, corruption, and fraud, such as environmental fraud or bankruptcy fraud. If people share information, this can help us to prevent serious offences and/or track down the suspected perpetrators of such offences.

What happens if I contact the National Intelligence Team?

If you call the National Intelligence Team on +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34, the team member you speak to will first ask some general questions about who exactly you are and what sort of information you have. You can decide yourself what you tell or do not tell at this point. If the information is suitable, and if you agree, TNI will pass you on to one of the various teams. You can’t choose the team yourself: TNI decides which team is most suitable.

A member of the team will then contact you to make an appointment. At this appointment, you can share your information. The team will ensure that nobody learns of this.

If you do not yet have any suitable information, you remain in contact with the TNI. In that case, we agree together on how often to be in contact with one another.

If TNI is not the right place for your report, we will suggest who you should contact instead.

How does the National Intelligence Team ensure that the contact remains secret?

When you share information with the National Intelligence Team (TNI), your identity is shielded. Contact with TNI takes place via a shielded telephone line, which cannot be intercepted by investigative services. The number of this telephone line is +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34. You will never be called from this number – this is to ensure that nobody can accidentally see that you have been in contact with this phone number. So if you call and nobody answers, it is important that you try again some other time (between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.).

How can I contact the National Intelligence Team?

You can call the National Intelligence Team on +31 (0)88 - 661 77 34, on Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. TNI’s phone line is also open during the broadcasting of the crime watch TV programme Opsporing Verzocht: on Monday evenings from 9.15 p.m. onwards.

Your information can help us to make society safer and ensure that the perpetrators of serious offences don’t get away with what they’ve done. And your information may also help us to prevent crimes.

Are there other ways to share information apart from the National Intelligence Team?

If you have information but don’t want to share it via the National Intelligence Team, there are various alternative channels you can use. The most commonly used ways to pass on a tip are the tip-off line (0800-6070/+31 79345 9800) and the online tip-off forms on www.politie.nl. You can also share information anonymously via M., either by phone (+31 (0)800-7000/00800 0800) or via an online report form.
